Xfinity Internet is launching a free Xumo Stream Box to its customers that will be powered by Comcast’s EntertainmentOS platform.
According to the telecom provider, the EntertainmentOS-powered Xumo 4k streaming box is designed to make it easier for customers to find the content they want to watch, which promises to solve a major pain point in the current content streaming market.
In fact, the idea of simplifying streaming dominates the company’s announcement, with John Dixon, senior vice president of entertainment, noting the frustration that often comes with navigating different streaming apps to find something.
“Xumo Stream Box helps simplify streaming so customers can spend more time watching and less time searching with key features like live TV at start-up, leading voice search, an integrated guide, and all the most popular apps preloaded and ready to watch,” Dixon says.
According to Xfinity, customers can search for a show or movie by saying its name into the included voice remote, and the box will search across available apps and services to find it.

Xumo Stream Box also includes live channels from Xfinity Stream, allowing broadband customers to stream live content from the app’s 20-plus FAST channels and for NOW TV customers to watch content from more than 40 streaming channels.
The box also includes the new “currently playing” tile that shows what’s airing on the last Xfinity Stream channel the customer watched. It also features a built-in channel guide to browse Xfinity Stream channels.
The Xumo Stream Box comes preloaded with “hundreds” of streaming apps, so customers don’t need to download any.
Xfinity customers will be able to build personalized viewing lists for family members, and users can add any show or movie on the Box to a specific list for quick access.
This adds the Xumo Stream Box to Xfinity’s list of devices powered by EntertainmentOS, including the Sky Glass and Sky Stream.
Xfinity says EntertainmentOS is built upon the same RDK-powered global technology platform that delivers nearly five billion entertainment streams per week to customers across Comcast, Sky, Xumo and its syndication partners, and processes 15 billion entertainment-related voice commands a day through its award-winning voice search technology.
