It’s always difficult to design an open-floorplan home theater and offer a high level of performance while being extremely easy to use. By carefully selecting the appropriate equipment, Audio Breakthroughs created an inspiring den space with a multiroom music and theater experience while delivering high value and without compromise.
“The desired layout was challenging, and we had to overcome difficult acoustics,” says Audio Breakthroughs Vice President Spencer Clark.
“Everyone wants a great space for entertaining guests. You want beautiful décor, kid-friendly features, outstanding audio video performance and simple ease of use, and these open multi-use floorplans are great environments for all of that, except optimal AV performance.”
Anthem amplification with ARC (Anthem Room Correction) fuels the audio and, when paired with Sonos Ports enabled the integrator to equalize the in-ceiling gym speakers properly and achieve great sound quality even with less-than-ideal acoustics throughout the den space, he explains. The GoldenEar speakers provide a warm, detailed, and dynamic presentation, Clark says.
“It is a beautiful, great entertainment space, and the glass wall design makes the gym feel so much larger,” he adds.

On the video side, a Dragonfly ALR (ambient light rejecting) screen helps with light control while the Sony 5000ES projector delivers plenty of brightness. The Lutron HomeWorks QSX system created easy lighting scenes with shade control and AV integration via Palladiom keypads within the Control4 platform.
The team even worked with a contractor to have the mirror cut to mount the Samsung Frame TV perfectly flat using the Strong VersaBox to house the one connect module, making installation much easier.
“We achieved an ideal entertainment flow from the bar into the theater/rec room by perfectly blending the Samsung Frame TV and speakers into their décor,” Clark says. “An airy-feeling gym down the hall was designed using glass walls and integrated into the control system like the other rooms for easy use.”
