What if that exterior lightbulb at your customer’s front door was also a camera?

Lorex Technology, a Canadian manufacturer of security cameras and video doorbells, has just introduced such a product: the 2K Wi-Fi Lightbulb Camera. This wireless device combines a dimmable LED lightbulb and a surveillance camera in one compact unit that screws into any standard E26/E27 light socket without tools or wiring.

Retailing for $69.99, the lightbulb camera features a motorized pan-and-tilt mechanism, offering 360-degree horizontal rotation and vertical tilt for comprehensive indoor or outdoor coverage. Lorex markets setup as taking less than five minutes, and the camera can be easily moved to different light sockets as security needs evolve.

Smart Security Meets Smart Lighting

Users can control the camera via the Lorex app, adjusting the field of view in real time. The device includes color night vision, person and vehicle detection, and smart notification capabilities. A built-in speaker and microphone enable two-way talk for quick interaction or deterrence, the company says.

The top of the unit houses a multi-directional, dimmable 400-lumen LED bulb with smart lighting features such as scheduling, motion-activation, and camera-triggered lighting, according to Lorex. Multiple bulbs also can be synced for enhanced energy efficiency.

According to Lorex, users can activate Privacy Mode, which swings the camera inward to cover the lens and stop recording, while the light continues functioning. Unlike traditional security systems, this device doesn’t require permanent installation or screws, making it a non-invasive solution.

With its IP65-rated weather-resistant housing, the company says the camera is designed to perform in harsh outdoor conditions. Recording options include MicroSD card, cloud storage via Lorex, or Lorex NVR for continuous footage capture.

In a statement, Alan Mok, product manager at Lorex, says the company wants to provide homeowners with versatile and innovative security solutions.

“By combining a functional lightbulb with state-of-the-art security features, this device exemplifies our mission to merge functionality, simplicity, and advanced technology to ensure peace of mind,” Mok says.
