Crestron is releasing version 4.4 of its smart home platform Crestron Home OS, bringing new conditional logic upgrades to home automations, pin code protection on touchscreens, support for third-party luxury keypads, better integration capabilities, and other tools for integrators.
The company’s fall release follows its summer update, which was largely about conditional logic and automation capabilities that allowed dealers to create complex and nuanced automation scenarios with a defined set of conditions that must be met before an action is triggered.
Conditional Logic Updates in Crestron Home OS 4.4
In a new blog, Crestron says the new update improves those automation capabilities, allowing dealers to trigger commands every time the system is restarted. In addition, driver developers can include properties in their drivers that can be used in conditional logic in Crestron Home. Condition logic functions can also now be set in the Crestron Home Configurator so dealers can set those “if-then” statements ahead of time.
Pin Codes
With the introduction of pin code protection, homeowners can now lock down specific screens on their touch panels. For example, users can turn on pin code access to the living room or kitchen touchscreens when having guests over, and then switch them back to normal when they leave.
Or, users can opt to keep pin codes activated in spaces where privacy is a must, like a bedroom.

Support for Third-party Keypads from Black Nova, Meljac
The Crestron Home OS 4.4 update also includes support for elegant keypads from Italian manufacturer Black Nova and French manufacturer Meljac.
Black Nova keypads supported include the Black Nova Alba M1 model with displays, with the integration handling the logic for the device to display current temperature, setpoints, mode, fan mode, and humidity. Crestron Home OS will also route a current temperature from a designated thermostat to the display, and users can also handle setpoints interactions automatically so as a user adjusts the keypad setpoint raise and lower buttons, the display will automatically change to show the adjustment, then times out to show the current temperature.
The update allows Meljac keypads with Cresent communications to be integrated into Crestron Home systems, adding another layer of luxury from a European manufacturer to a smart home project.
Shared Gateways for Expanded Coverage and SIMPL Integration Modules for Customization
According to Crestron, OS 4.4 also enables integrators to share infiNET EX CEN-GW1 gateways between processors, improving wireless coverage across a home. This eliminates the need for separate gateway sets for lighting and AV processors, streamlining installations.
Integrators can now combine Crestron Home OS’s lighting and shading control with the customization capabilities of SIMPL programming, offering tailored solutions, the company adds.
Enhanced Search, Language Support, and BACnet Improvements
Other improvements include a new text search in the Home Chooser feature that allows integrators to quickly locate and manage client systems, support for 26 languages, and BACnet enhancements that include the addition of “Dry Mode” across user interfaces.
Support for the New DM NVX 385 Encoder/Decoder
According to Crestron, the update also provide support for the DM NVX 384, which includes USB-C connectivity, multi-input switching (in addition to the two USB-C connections, the device has two HDMI connectivity inputs, making it a four-input switcher), and 5K support.
Crestron says these features are the result of field research and dealer feedback, so the company invites dealers to provide input on what features they want in future updates that come at no charge to integrators or clients.
