LeakSmart Brings New Market Opportunity with Smart Leak Detection to CEDIA Expo 2018
LeakSmart water detection system is simple add-on service for integrators, with potential RMR opportunity and third-party control. CEDIA Expo booth 1400.
LeakSmart, an intelligent and reliable leak and flood protection system for the home making its debut at CEDIA Expo 2018 (booth 1400), aims to get integrators in the business of helping homeowners prevent costly water damage.
Installation is simple and fast with the new LeakSmart Snap, a shut-off valve control that installs in seconds without any tools or the need to cut into the main water supply line. And homeowners can extend this protection even during power outages and downed Wi-Fi with the new LeakSmart Hub 3.0.
As a member of the Works with Nest program, LeakSmart sees the advantages of targeting the custom installation channel with its products specifically designed to detect leaks in the home.
The company’s new Snap Valve Controls provide intelligent leak and flood detection “with a twist,” according to Jeff Pratt, vice president of sales, North America. The “twist” is that the Snap-on Valve Controller does not require tools to install. It doesn’t even require a plumber.
The device simply snaps on to any type of ball, gate or globe water valve at any angle… even in tight spaces.
Built-in Wi-Fi provides flexibility in the installation of the LeakSmart Hub. Integrators can place it anywhere within the home for coverage and communication between LeakSmart devices.
The latest Zigbee 3.0 protocol ensures the hub will continue working—sending emergency notifications through LeakSmart’s free smartphone application—even if Wi-Fi is down or the power is out.
LeakSmart Sensors are also strategically placed around water heaters, HVAC humidifiers and the laundry appliances to detect moisture (and temperature to protect against freezing) and send a signal within 5 seconds to the battery-powered LeakSmart Hub, which receives the signals and instructs the Snap to shut off the water via ZigBee wireless.
The system works even if the Internet and power are down. The hub is controllable by third-party systems, including Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Nest and Control4. Pratt says more control drivers will be on the way.
When paired with Nest, LeakSmart alerts users to turn off their HVAC if a leak is detected nearby. When Nest is in Home/Away Assist mode for more than 48 hours, LeakSmart reminds users to turn off the main water valve remotely.
Homeowners can also get a heads up on the LeakSmart App when plunging temperatures threaten to freeze pipes using LeakSmart Sensors, or Nest’s room temperature and indoor humidity readings.
The system comes packaged with multiple sensors and can scale based on the size of the home. Also, the homeowner receives a notification via the LeakSmart app.
There are no monthly fees attached to the notification service, although integrators could create an RMR revenue stream around a lead detection notification service if they desired on their own, according to Pratt.
Coming in 2019 will be an additional module that can do “water analytics” and detect water flow within the pipes. LeakSmart sells through national distributors, including AVAD and Capitol.
“The custom integrator can simply snap it on in seconds and the whole system works,” adds Pratt.
LeakSmart Snap fits in any space, installs at any angle and on any type of valve. It programs itself to calibrate the torque required to turn off a home’s main water supply, making adjustments if necessary, and is strong enough to open even the toughest valve in a home.
LeakSmart is also backed by a five-year warranty.
