Generac Power Systems subsidiary ecobee is launching its new wired Smart Doorbell Camera, the company’s first entry into doorbell cameras.
In the somewhat crowded field of video doorbells, ecobee markets its Smart Doorbell Camera as having a better field-of-view and an integration with the brand’s Smart Thermostat Premium, giving homeowners the ability to see a live stream of the camera directly on the thermostat screen. Users can then talk to guests via the Smart Thermostat Premium or on the ecobee app with a mobile device.
The camera also offers a 175-degree field of view, which ecobee says is tops in the industry.
Founder and CEO Stuart Lombard says the company wanted to make a doorbell camera that stands apart from the rest of the field, which includes many well-known products such as Ring, Nest, Arlo Aqara, SimpliSafe and many others.
The company also says the doorbell can operate in extreme conditions with IP65 waterproofing and dust protection.

The ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera also features several AI features, such as advanced radar verification and computer vision to give homeowners more accurate detection to provide meaningful notifications. Customers can also create an Activity Zone, which ecobee says is a customized area on a porch or walkway where the camera will focus for motion and person detection.
The company offers multiple subscription plans for recording and professional monitoring.
The ecobee Smart Doorbell Camera can be controlled with the ecobee app, Apple Watch, Apple HomeKit and Alexa, with support for Google Assistant coming soon, the company says.
