Smart home device maker Aqara is launching its highly anticipated Smart Lock U200, a retrofit, keyless solution for home access management with native Matter compatibility.
The company says the Smart Lock U200 is one of the first Matter-over-Thread locks that provides multiple secure door entry options, including Apple home keys for iOS users to unlock by tapping their device to the lock. The lock is also one of the first retrofit smart locks to feature Apple home key, according to Aqara.
In addition to Apple home keys, the Smart Lock U200 can be controlled with fingerprint sensors, PIN codes (which also allow for guest access), popular smart home control apps and voice assistants, Aqara NFC key fobs, as well as traditional keys.
According to Aqara, the locks stand out in the smart lock market due to their retrofit design that allows homeowners to upgrade existing locks without having to change keys or modify door structure.
Aqara says the Smart Lock U200 also features advanced encryption, a tamper alarm on the wireless keypad, and an auto-lock function that automatically secures the door after a set period. Users will also get real-time mobile notifications about their home’s security status.
The lock features many of the same capabilities as previous Aqara locks, such as local and encrypted storage of sensitive data like fingerprints and passwords, anti-peep PIN code protection, Do-Not-Disturb mode, Passage mode, and Night Latch mode. However, the U200 adds new features like quiet unlock mode to minimize the noise level, pull spring feature for handle-less or inward-opening doors, and turn-to-lock and turn-to-unlock functions.
The lock runs on rechargeable Li-Ion batteries and can last up to six months between charges. The IPX5-reated keypad is operable with AAA batteries or existing doorbell wiring, the company says.
The lock is available on Amazon and select retailers.
