After consulting with the local officials and monitoring the recent reports from public health officials, CEDIA has announced the cancellation of its upcoming Tech Summit slated for Vancouver on March 12 due to the coronavirus. The association plans to reschedule the event for later in the year.
At this date, the association still plans to hold its upcoming London Tech Summit (March 31) as well as its two California events, slated for March 31 in Woodland Hills and April 2 in Irvine.
Other Tech Summits are scheduled for later in the spring in:
- Dallas — April 14
- Houston — April 16
- Toronto — May 14
- Edinburgh, Scotland — June 2
Fall events are slated for:
- Chicago — September 24
- New York — October 6
- New Jersey — October 8
The Tech Summits, which were acquired by CEDIA in 2018, are local one-day events put on with the cooperation of local independent reps and distributors. The events are designed for integrators to attend for half the day, with the educational sessions repeated in the morning and afternoon.
Breakfast, lunch and evening cocktails are served right on the trade show floor so attendees can mingle with sponsors. Depending on the location, the Tech Summits draw as many as 300 integrators for a single-day event.
Here is the full statement provided by CEDIA:
“CEDIA would like to express our concern for everyone impacted by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Based on our close monitoring of ongoing developments, recent reports from public health officials, and consultation with the government of British Columbia, CEDIA has decided to cancel the Vancouver Tech Summit scheduled for March 12, 2020, but does plan to reschedule for later in the year.
The health and safety of our staff and anyone planning to attend our events is of the utmost importance to CEDIA. As such, we believe this is the most prudent action to take at this time.
CEDIA is closely monitoring and following the travel and safety advice and precautions recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as by relevant government health agencies at a regional and local level.
As of today, our London (March 31) and California (Woodland Hills, March 31 and Irvine, April 2) events will take place as scheduled. This situation remains very fluid and should a cancellation or a reschedule need to occur, we will notify all relevant participants and attendees.”
