With the release of the Orbi 970 Series, NETGEAR is bringing Wi-Fi 7 to its Orbi line of mesh Wi-Fi systems and is adding a new antenna design and exclusive, patented technology designed to enhance Wi-Fi 7 benefits.
According to the company, the Orbi 970 Series delivers speeds of up to 27 Gbps via a slim design that includes powerful antennas for 360-degree coverage across any home, regardless of the layout.
The networking manufacturer says multi-gig internet speeds are becoming available to more households and the number of connected devices in each home is growing. In addition, high-bandwidth applications such as 4K/8K video streaming, video calls, gaming and immersive entrainment necessitate faster Wi-Fi speeds and lower latency.
The Orbi 970 Series taps into the newest Wi-Fi standard, featuring Quad-Band technology and Enhanced Dedicated Backhaul to ensure Wi-Fi stays fast across all devices. In addition, the Orbi 970 Series includes multi-link operation to create Enhanced Dedicated Backhaul, which combines a dedicated 5GHz band with a 6GHz band to double the connection speed between the router and mesh Wi-Fi satellites and achieve 10 Gig wireless backhaul for reduced latency and even faster speeds.
The system also includes a Smart Connect feature that intelligently selects the fastest Wi-Fi band for each connected device in the home.

According to NETGEAR, the Orbi 970 Series router features a 10 Gig internet port as well as a 10 Gig and four 2.5 Gig Ethernet ports. Each node includes 12 high performance internal antennas with high-powered amplifiers for 360-degree, wall-to-wall, front-to-back coverage.
NETGEAR also touts the slim, sleek, cylindrical design of the routers and satellites, which help them fit unobtrusively on desks, shelves or other furniture.
David Henry, president and general manager of connected home products at services at NEGEAR, says in a statement that the Orbi 970 Series represents a major milestone in delivering NETGEAR’s patented Quad Band technology across the whole home, with speeds up to 2.4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6.
“We’ve combined our extensive RF (radio frequency) expertise and new patented technology with the features of Wi-Fi 7 to provide the fastest Wi-Fi speeds, ensuring anything and everything connected to the Orbi 970 system operates at optimal performance even across the most demanding smart homes,” Henry says.
The Orbi 970 Series comes as a three-pack for $2299.99 or a two-pack for $1699.99. An add-on satellite is $899.99. The three-ack is designed to cover up to 10,000 square feet and support up to 200 devices. Each add-on satellite can increase coverage up to 3,300 square feet, the company says.
In addition, the kit comes with one year of NETGEAR Armor, the company’s Bitdefender-powered security service that is built into the router as an all-in-one security solution that monitors activity between the internet and connected devices in the home to flag potential threats.
The Orbi 970 also comes with parental controls to help manage kids’ access, which is free for a 30-day trial period. The Orbi app also enables users to manage their network from anywhere.
