Even with its vaunted track record, Kaleidescape continues to improve on its best-in-class AV systems with the new multifaceted and feature-rich Strato V movie player.
The Strato V can be used as a standalone entertainment solution, or it can be augmented with a Kaleidescape Terra Prime media server for a more robust entertainment solution, which offer storage up to 96TBs.
Priced at $3,995 or about the same prices as an audiophile or videophile disc player, the compact home entertainment solution provides the same level of picture quality and audio envelopment that are the hallmarks of the company’s more expensive and in-demand systems, CE Pro’s resident AV guru Bob Archer noted in his recent review of the Strato V.
Kaleidescape’s new movie player ships with a THX Interconnect 2-meter high-fidelity cable designed in partnership with Pixelgen. The THX Interconnect HDMI 2.1b cables are built to deliver 100% uncompressed high-speed signals up to 8K-10K of up to 48Gbps.
“What we wanted to do with this product is have something lower priced to get into the Kaleidescape system, but also that would scale all the way up to huge systems if you wanted to over time,” Tayloe Stansbury, chairman and CEO (and customer) of Kaleidescape, tells CE Pro in our pre-CEDIA Expo 2024 Q&A video above.

Strato V Offers Kaleidescape Users Flexibility & Functionality
For integrators requiring longer runs of the THX Interconnect cables, they range from 0.5 meters (1.64 feet) up to 15 meters (49.2 feet).
Like other Kaleidescape products, the Strato V delivers lossless audio, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. The half-RU space source component produces uncompressed 4K in SDR, as well as HDR10 and Dolby Vision in bitrates as high as 100Mbps with 60fps.
“So this product, what it does that’s different from previous products is it will download and store movies by itself without having to have a server,” Stansbury explains, “but it will download them at very fast speeds – the same speed our servers do. And then you can play them directly on the device and add servers over time and add players over time.”
Additionally, Kaleidescape states the Strato V integrates into third-party control systems.
