Structured Cable Products Inc. (SCP), a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.-based manufacturer and supplier of low-voltage cables and accessories, has acquired Current Audio, a San Diego-based designer and manufacturer of in-ceiling speakers, in-wall speakers, outdoor speakers and accessories. Financial details of the transaction were not revealed.
“We are very excited to add Current Audio and its award-winning speaker technologies to the SCP product family. We believe that SCP’s manufacturing and global distribution experience will streamline the design-to-market process for the Current Audio product lines. This will allow greater inventory availability to distribution partners and quicker responsiveness to changing market needs in the future,” says David Spiller, president and founder of Structured Cable Products Inc.
Two of Current Audio’s founding partners, Sean McDermott and Ron Maurer, will continue to represent Current Audio under the SCP corporate umbrella.
“Both Ron and Sean’s experience with Current Audio are invaluable resources for both the continuity and ongoing development of the Current Audio product lines,” adds Spiller.
“We have a great opportunity to continue growing Current Audio with our new partners at Structured Cable Products. SCP’s production, market distribution, and financial support will allow us to improve stocking levels on our key product lines… which we recognize as paramount for our clients,” says McDermott, who at one time was a CE Pro 100 integrator running Advanced Electronic Solutions based in El Cajon, Calif. “Both Ron and I are very happy to be working with SCP and building upon what we have already established as one of the premier speaker brands in our industry.”
McDermott, Maurer and Rich Apgar launched Current Audio in 2008, with seven patents pending at the time, mostly for little things that make an integrator's job easier such as Fastloc grilles on in-ceiling speakers.
Current Audio will maintain its current phone, fax and email for ordering and customer support. The new sales office will be at 8141 Center Street, La Mesa, CA 91942. Shipping and administration will be conducted through Structured Cable Products Inc.
The new Current Audio product line will be showcased in the SCP booth #2915 at the upcoming CEDIA 2016 in Dallas from September 13-17.
SCP also will be showcasing HDMI CEC-friendly switchers from Pulse Eight, for which it is the master distributor in the U.S.
