Samsung is launching the Freestyle Gen 2 with Gaming Hub, which the company calls the first portable projector with cloud gaming built in.
According to the Korean electronics manufacturer, the Freestyle Gen 2 provides instant access to streaming entertainment platforms and now includes the Samsung Gaming Hub, allowing users to play games from Xbox and other streaming partners without a console.
The projector can display content in a wide range of sizes, from 30 inches to 100 inches, and automatically optimizes for full high definition viewing at 1080×1920 resolution, according to Samsung.
The projector, now available for pre-order for $799.99, allows users to stream over 3,000 games from Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, Utomik, Antstream Arcade, and Blacknut, Samsung says.
The projector also supports other entertainment apps, such as Spotify, YouTube and Twitch so users can listen to music, videos and follow streamers while playing.

Samsung markets the Freestyle Gen 2’s setup simplicity, saying users only need to sync it to a Bluetooth controller and point it at a wall or projector screen.
The new Freestyle projector includes auto leveling, auto focus and auto keystone technologies to make setup simple, automatically adjusting the picture for the best viewing experience. In addition, the projector includes Samsung PurColor technology that automatically optimizes colors.
Users can also mirror content from their smartphone using the SmartThings app, and the Smart Calibration feature ill upgrade that mirrored content to set the color exposure and picture quality, the company says.
Samsung also says the Freestyle Gen 2 with Gaming Hub has more memory than the previous version, allowing for a better user experience and making it easier to stream content from the projector. For outdoor use, the projector comes with the Samsung SolarCell Remote, which uses a solar panel for charging.
James Fishler, senior vice president of Samsung’s home entertainment and display division, says users want more versatile technology, and portable projectors can fit that need.
“The Freestyle is one-of-a-kind in the market because it offers instant access to the same streaming entertainment apps that you enjoy on your Samsung TV,” Fishler says. “Plus, setup is simple so you can easily project your favorite shows – and now even stream thousands of popular games – in high definition on the big screen anywhere, whether that’s right at home, or if you’re like me, on weekend camping trips.”
