Fresh off its CEA Innovations Award win at CES 2012, Atlona touted its LinkCast wireless HD distribution system during Integrated Systems Europe (ISE 2012) in Amsterdam. Based on technology from Amimon (WHDi), the LinkCast system enables the distribution of multiple HDMI sources to multiple displays wirelessly up to 40 feet. The product is aimed primarily at PC-type sources, as a USB port is required for power. The unit supports uncompressed video resolutions up to 1080p HD and 1280x1024, including 3D video, with a latency of less than one millisecond, according…

Robert Archer | 02/02 07:27 AM,
Over the past several months the momentum behind the HDBaseT transmission technology has grown with several manufacturers adopting the format and releasing new products into the marketplace. The latest company to launch a new HDBaseT product into the professional electronics market is Audio Authority. The Lexington, Kentucky-based manufacturer's new HBT200KIT is a HDBaseT solution that electronics professionals can use to address long-range signal transmission issues in commercial and residential system environments. Audio Authority says the HBT200KIT is capable of sending uncompressed HD video, lossless audio, IR and RS-232 control signals…

HDBaseT Still Dreams of Major CE Adopters
Julie Jacobson | 01/17 08:06 AM,

HDBaseT was a little quiet this year at CES. The technology, the Alliance, and the developer Valens Semiconductor took shelter in a meeting room … hopefully meeting with major CE brands that want to implement the technology on a broad scale, which we have yet to see. No doubt HDBaseT -- which delivers audio, HD video, Ethernet data, control signals and power over a single Cat 5 cable -- is rock solid and a blessing to home systems integrators and discriminating consumers. It has been employed successfully by several respectable…

Review: ‘Awesome’ New HDMI/Audio Switcher for Control4
Joe Whitaker | 12/02 09:37 AM,

We have been blessed lately with a plethora of HDMI switchers that solve some of the worst deficiencies of HDMI: key limitations, switching lags, EDID support, and so many others. Indeed, I’ve written glowing reviews of some of them. But for the most part they don’t solve a big problem that plagues home entertainment systems in general: pesky IR emitters and RS-232 contraptions on the A/V components themselves. Start-up HydraConnect solves all of these problems with the new HSS-1 HDMI switcher ($9,000), shipping this year (specs below). I discovered this…

JJ’s Takeaways from CEDIA 2011
Julie Jacobson | 11/14 10:18 AM,
2 Comments
CEDIA Expo 2011 was two months ago, but the innovations from the event are still fresh. While there were some mind-blowing products like Sony's affordable 4K projector, there were also some more modest developments that signify industry trends: Return of the touchscreens iPad and Android tablets were all over the show floor, as usual, but that doesn’t signify the end of the dedicated touchscreen. Seems they’re actually enjoying a comeback, even in the middle market. Both Control4 and URC introduced new 7-inch touchpanels that look like sleek tablets but act…

HDBaseT Alliance, the cross-industry alliance formed to promote and standardize HDBaseT technology for whole-home and commercial distribution of uncompressed high definition (HD) multimedia content, today announced it will demonstrate HDBaseT enabled devices in a home entertainment setting at CEDIA EXPO 2011 in Indianapolis, Ind., Sept. 7-10. The Alliance will simulate a consumer living room installation, illustrating the simplicity of a home theater installation using HDBaseT technology. Using HDBaseT, devices and displays within the home are networked using a single Cat5e/6 LAN cable. Sending the 5Play™ feature set, HDBaseT converges uncompressed,…

Universal Balun Eliminates up to 7 SKUs
Jason Knott | 07/22 06:45 AM,

As president of Atlantic Technology, Peter Tribeman knows how to make big loudspeakers, but he also knows it's the little things in the field that can make or break an integration business. So he really listened when longtime friend Jay Trieber, owner of Home Theater Concepts in Boston, mentioned his big problem problem with baluns: Too many times his service guys were unable to fix a system because they had the wrong baluns on the truck. When you have lots analog systems installed in the field to service, that wasted…

Kordz HDBaseT Extender
Robert Archer | 06/22 02:48 AM,
HDBaseT was formed about a year ago by several well know manufacturers and other entities. Fast forward and Kordz has just introduced its PLX-HDB.4 HDBaseT Extender that is designed to facilitate the transmission of uncompressed high-speed HDMI, 6-port Ethernet, IR and RS-232 data simultaneously over a single category 5/6 cable up to 100 meters. Kordz says the PLX-HDB.4 can be used with short distance and long-distance cabling runs and the Extender allows for the wiring of multiple source units in a single transmitter and receiver setup with the option of…

The HDBaseT Alliance is launching the 1.0 Certification Program, an initiative aimed at promoting and standardizing HDBaseT. The program will ensure "interoperability among current and future HDBaseT products and that all HDBaseT compliant products have met an approved baseline for HDBaseT functionality." "The Alliance has released the 1.0 Certification Program to provide members with a set program for ensuring their products are compliant, interoperable and part of an established product ecosystem," says Ariel Sobelman, president of the HDBaseT Alliance.
