Google is finally expanding support for the first-gen wired Nest Doorbell in the Google Home app, continuing to merge Nest products with its Google Home platform.

This comes after adding support for the first gen Nest Cam Indoor and Nest Cam Outdoor last year. Google will be rolling out access to Public Preview users with a first-gen wired Nest Doorbell over the next several weeks, the company says.

Once users transfer their doorbell, formerly known as Nest Hello, into Public Preview for the Google Home app, they’ll be able to manage it alongside other devices on the Home app instead of having to use the Nest app. Users can also try new features like updated camera history experience with quick switching between timeline and event lists views to review camera history.

Users can access these new camera history experiences in both the Google Home app and Google Home for web.

According to Google, transferring the doorbell to the Home app offers a more organized way to manage third-party and Google devices in one place. The company says the Home app offers “the best of the Nest app experience” for controlling the camera, checking live video and viewing clips.

Users can also try new features like script editor to create automations, and they will be able to check live feeds and video history from most web browsers.

Transferring the Nest Doorbell to the Google Home app will eliminate the doorbell from the Nest app, the company adds.

The company says it is actively working to transition additional Nest devices into the Home app.

“We’ll continue to bring support for more Nest devices and features in the Home app while maintaining a high bar for privacy, security, and user experience,” the company says in a post on its Google Nest Community forum. “Each device has its own complexity and requires migrating infrastructure, updates to device software, and evaluating if the hardware can be supported.”

In addition to the first-gen wired Nest Doorbell, which is not supported in the Google Home app, other Nest Doorbell products include the battery-powered Nest Doorbell and the second-generation wired Nest Doorbell.

Google is also launching advanced AI image detection for garage door monitoring in Google Home for compatible Nest Cam users. This feature can detect if a garage has been left open and will notify the homeowner without any additional hardware or sensors.

This will be available for users will be available in US and Canada to users that have a Nest Aware subscription and own a Nest Cam (indoor, wired, 2nd gen) or a Nest Cam (outdoor or indoor, battery) when wired for power.
