Ever since the beginning of the custom installation industry, home theater has always served as the calling card of dealers across the globe, and it’s something Richard Charschan knows all too well.
Serving as the president of the Merrick, N.Y.-based custom home theater company AcousticSmart, Charschan just released a new book, Home Theaterology: The Art of Creating the Perfect Home Theater. It’s a book that’s been years in the making, and though smart home technologies such as lighting, shades, and control are challenging the home theater’s market supremacy, Charschan believes there’s still no better time for integrators to refine their home theater offerings.
As Charshan tells CE Pro in the latest edition of the CE Pro Podcast, his goal with the book is to help the industry relate to and close the knowledge gap that exists between other home professions such as interior designers and architects.
“It’s a very important book,” enthuses Charschan. “We’re trying to really ignite more passion into the home theater industry … and to also help architects and interior designers understand more about the correct way to specify home theaters.”
Home Theaterology: The Art of Creating the Perfect Home Theater Emphasizes Quality Designs
According to Charschan, not only can it be difficult to explain the benefits home theater provides to homeowners, but it can be difficult to summarize to home professionals such as interior designers and architects.
The book he says features some of the best home theater installations in the world and the book showcases how these systems complement homeowners’ at-home entertainment desires through AV. Additionally, Richard Charschan continues, the book features commentary from some of the world’s most renowned home AV authorities, including the acoustician Anthony Grimani and the video calibration pioneer Joel Silver of the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF).
Charschan notes that top quality home theaters are more than fancy cinema-style seats and expensive components. He stresses that careful design are critical and its these elements the book helps to communicate to homeowners, interior designers, architects and anyone else associated with residential market.
