Since first opening in 2008, the Smart Home exhibit in Chicago’s Museum of Science & Industry has hosted more than 250,000 guests. But it wasn’t’ all that foot traffic that precipitated a makeover, it was new technology. The exhibit, dubbed “Chicago’s Greenest Home,” is now outfitted with even more green technologies. The tech portion of the project was an example of some of the best levels of industry cooperation ever witnessed. Here’s a quick list of the tech participants. Doherty Design Group: Led by former CEDIA president Tom Doherty, the…

Trufig was recently awarded the "Most Innovative Product" by the ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) in their ‘Top Pick Awards 2011 Best of Show’ at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York City. The company's designs allow light switches, keypads, power outlets, data and TV jacks, Decora fittings and speakers to be installed completely flush into the wall or ceiling, meaning no more shadow lines. In addition to this, it can be painted, faux finished, wallpapered, or laminated to match nearly any surface, including drywall, stone, wood,…

It ceases to amaze us that Trufig can make ugly electrical outlets and light switches disappear into a wall. But the company even manages to make air vents look moderately un-atrocious. We already know that TRUFIG mounting solutions look awesome when used on Sheetrock. They make electrical outlets, dimmers, touchscreens and other electronic gear practically disappear into the wall. But what if the wall is wood or granite or some other hard surface? Now there’s a TRUFIG for that. Like the original product, the new TRUFIG Solid Surface Solutions do a great job of hiding in-wall electronics on unconventional surfaces. Installation, however, is more challenging than a straightforward Sheetrock job – not least because a depth-adjustment tool must be brought into…

There are only a few brand names in the technology field that have become so ingrained in our lexicon that they transitioned from a brand name to a verb. “Googled” and “TiVo’ed” come to mind. “TRUFIG’ed” might soon join that short list, according to a handful of integrators who are gushing about the product. TRUFIG, a spinoff company from Sonance and part of Dana Innovations based in San Clemente, Calif., has created a sleek array of product designs that has does something that most integrators would have thought impossible… it…
