Samsung (KSE: 005930.KS) has become the first of the big three indoor TV makers to debut into the outdoor entertainment market with its new The Terrace 4K outdoor TV and companion The Terrace soundbar. The 4K QLED smart TV and accompanying soundbar are specifically designed to bring the indoor entertainment experience outside.

Available in 55-, 65-and 75-inch models, The Terrace is IP55 rated for resistance to dust and water. It has a thin 10mm bezel and a depth of 59mm, with 2,000 nits of brightness, a motion rate of MR240, and a 2% reflection rate using an anti-glare coating. Price points are $3,499, $4,999, and $6,499 respectively.

The Terrace comes equipped with Tizen, Samsung’s Smart TV platform, which powers features such as Samsung TV Plus, a free linear TV video service with over 120 channels, Samsung Health, a fitness and wellness platform that launches in the U.S. next week, as well as the leading subscription streaming services. In addition to supporting mobile viewing capabilities like Multi View and Tap View, the Terrace also supports multiple voice services including Bixby, Amazon Alexa and soon Google Assistant.

“In recent months, as we’ve spent more time at home, we’ve seen how the TV has played an even more essential role in our everyday lives. It’s a center for entertainment, a source for news, a hub for exercise,and it helps us stay connected at work,” says James Fishler, senior vice president of the Home Entertainment Division at Samsung Electronics America. “As the weather improves, consumers are looking to enjoy those experiences outdoors. The Terrace takes all the Samsung Smart TV experiences that consumers have come to expect, and optimizes them for the backyard.”

The Terrace is available in the U.S. and Canada starting today rollouts to Germany, Australia and New Zealand and other regions later this year. Commercial display models will be launching in the United States, Germany, and Australia later this year.

The outdoor TV market in custom installation is dominated by several independent brands, including SunBrite (by SnapAV), Séura, Peerless-AV and Stealth, although the most recent CE Pro 100 Brand Analysis Study showed that a relatively high percentage of integrators install indoor TVs from Sony, Samsung and LG outside at the behest of clients.

The Terrace display has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity that allow it to be paired with The Terrace Soundbar or other devices. The Terrace Soundbar can be mounted to a wall, or directly to the Terrace TV. The soundbar is also IP55 rated to be weather-resistant and durable outdoors. It features distortion-cancelling technology to deliver a deep and clear bass sound from its built-in woofers, according to the company.

The expansion into the outdoor entertainment space was made in a virtual presentation by the company that replaced its normal in-person line show for the press. Another announcement at the online event included the debut of two new sizes (32 inches and 75 inches) for The Frame TV, joining the existing 43,-, 50-, 55- and 65-inch models.

Samsung also announced additional artwork for The Frame TV, including art from sources and galleries such as the Museo del Prado, the Albertina, Saatchi Art, Artspace, Sedition, Magnum Photos, LUMAS and more.

Lastly, Samsung announced its Sero display would now be available in both a 43- and 55-inch model.
