Leviton is building onto its Load Center and smart home app with the launch of its new Whole Home Energy Monitor and 2nd Gen Smart Circuit Breakers with Remote Control, pushing the company further into the energy management space.
According to Leviton, the new Whole Home Energy Monitor and Smart Circuit Breakers with Remote Control give end customers the ability to view consumption per kWh and production data from the grid and alternate energy sources such as solar, battery and generator accordingly.
With the Whole Home Energy Monitor, users can turn the new Smart Circuit Breakers on and off from anywhere, schedule breaker activity and automate the shedding of nonessential loads via the My Leviton app.
The company markets its Smart Circuit Breakers, its Decora line of smart lighting solutions and Evr-Green Electric Vehicle Chargers as a streamlined smart home energy management experience that can all be controlled via the company’s smart home app.
The company says the new Whole Home Energy Monitor enables the features of the 2nd Gen Smart Breakers and communicates with the My Leviton app. The solution includes one pair of Leviton Smart Mains Metering Accessory Current Transformers with a split-core design for easy installation on the service mains to monitor total-panel energy use.

Two other pairs of Smart Mains Metering Accessory Current Transformers can be integrated to allow for direct monitoring of alternate energy sources such as solar, battery and generator, the company says.
Homes with backup generators don’t need a secondary essentials load panel to power circuits from a generator, as the My Leviton app provides an interface for users to change their essential and nonessential circuits at any time without having to re-wire anything. The Whole Home Energy Monitor integrates with automatic transfer switches via contact interface and will automatically shed nonessential loads when grid power fails, according to Leviton.
The company says upgrading an existing Leviton Load Center to a Smart Load Center includes simply removing the standard circuit breakers out of the panel, snapping the new 2nd Gen Smart Circuit Breakers in their place, and installing the Whole Home Energy Monitor.
Basic and smart circuit breakers can also be intermixed in the Leviton Load Center, and Leviton 2nd Gen Smart Circuit Breakers take up the same space as basic circuit breakers, and don’t require any additional wiring, the company says.
The 2nd Gen Smart Circuit Breakers are now available in 1-Pole or 2-Pole formats and amperage up to 60A with a variety of protection types: standard overcurrent, combination AFCI, GFCI (personnel or equipment protection), and dual-function AFCI/GFCI.
Along with the breaker status color identifier in the rocker handle, and line-side powered LEDs communicating trip events on AFCI, GFCI and dual-function models, all 2nd Gen Smart Circuit Breakers include an LED to clearly display when a breaker has been remotely turned off, the company says.
In a statement, Justin Berghoff, Leviton’s senior director of business development and product management, says the company wants to give homeowners the insights they need to control their expenses and environmental impact.
This announcement follows the opening of the newest Leviton LIVE Experience center in Lake Nona, a smart community in Orlando, Florida known for its wellness-focused smart infrastructure.
