Crestron is rolling out several new DM NAX devices, including the DM-NAX-XSP audio return processor and four new DM NAX, audio-over-IP edge devices for residential projects that are compatible across DM NVX AV-over-IP (which recently hit a 1 million units sold milestone), DM NAX Audio-over-IP, AES67, and Dante audio networking platforms.
The products, announced this week via blog posts, are designed to offer flexibility in multiroom audio distribution systems.
Crestron DM-NAX-XSP Audio Return Processor
Crestron says the DM-NAX-XSP audio return processor is the company’s first surround sound decoding DM NAX XSP that can bridge streaming TVs to Crestron’s DM NAX multiroom audio distribution system. The company markets the device as a solution to bridging streaming TVs with an audio distribution system for premium in-room or multi-room audio.
When combined with the DM NAX platform, the processor XSP pairs seamlessly with any Crestron DM NAX amp or preamp to bring HDMI connectivity, eARC, and ARC audio video support and immersive audio from Dolby Atmos or DTS:X formats. The device offers multi-channel audio inputs with a two-channel DM NAX downmix out with 8K HDMI inputs and outputs, along with two network ports, one with PoE, according to Crestron.
By leveraging ARC/eARC, the device can grab high-quality audio content from smart TVs and tie that to a DM NAX technology solution. By linking two of these units together, the first can extend the ARC/eARC signal over IP to a rack where a second unit can feed a traditional AVR from there, the company says.

This allows users to enjoy streaming content via their in-ceiling speakers connected to a DM NAX amp, and it can all be controlled with the Crestron Home OS.
Crestron DM NAX AoIP Edge Devices

According to a Crestron blog on the new edge devices, they are all powered via PoE and are available in two flexible form factors with wall plates and surface mounts. The devices are designed to make installation and connectivity simple as they fit perfectly into any AV-over-IP system.
The four devices are the:
According to the company, each device offers compatibility with DM NVX, DM NAX, AES67, and Dante audio-over-IP systems and are designed for native compatibility with the most recent version of the Crestron Home OS platform.
Crestron says the DM-NAX-BTIO-1G is nearly a “truly universal solution” as it allows any wired or wireless audio source to bridge to a DM NAX network. The device features Bluetooth connectivity along with analog inputs and outputs that allow installers to add Bluetooth audio to any DM NAX Audio-over-IP, DM NVX AV-over-IP, Dante audio network, or AES67 AoIP system.
The DM-NAX-BTIO-1G can be installed with either a wall plate or surface mount, and a single connection allows users to control and manage the device through Crestron Home OS.
The company says the DM-NAX-2XLRI-1G wall plate with XLR input and balanced audio analog output is designed for adding mic or line-level audio to DM NAX technology, Dante networking or AES67 AoIP system. The device offers stereo analog audio outputs for integration with professional audio systems. The device has an onboard DSP, offering complete control over tone shaping and signal optimization. A single networked cable provides both power and audio signals.
The DM-NAX-2XLRI-1G also features 2×2 Dante audio networking and DM NAX Audio I/O in a wall plate form factor, complete with high-quality Neutrik XLR inputs that output to passive wall plates, according to Crestron.
Crestron markets the says the DM-NAX-AUD-IO converter with balanced analog audio input and output as a great way to bridge traditional analog media sources such as phones, laptops, media players and turntables into an audio setup. The device features stereo analog line inputs via Phoenix connectors for easy connection, and users can access a DM NAX, Dante, or AES67 AoIP stereo from the network for easy integration with existing audio systems.
The DM-NAX-AUD-IO also has an onboard DSP for tone shaping and signal optimization and features a compact sub-1/4 rack housing for easy installation, the company says.
According to Crestron, the DM-NAX-AUD-USB is a converter with USB and unbalanced analog audio input and output and is designed as a solution for connecting USB devices to DM NAX technology. The device is designed to be versatile and user friendly with stereo USB-C connectivity PC audio input to easily connect a laptop or other device for high-quality streaming. It also features a stereo analog 3.5mm line in/out for easy integration with a local audio system.
These features allow users to send PC audio to any DM NAX, Dante, or AES67 AoIP system. Like the other new devices, an onboard DSP enhances the audio experience, and a single cable offers power and signal transmission.
In other recent news, Crestron celebrated a one million unit milestone for its DM NVX AVoIP Platform.
