It is always advisable for CE pros to be attuned to the latest DIY offerings to be best prepared to answer questions from their customers. To that end, the announcement this week of the launch of Roku Smart Home is certainly one that integrators should be aware of.
The new line of solutions from Roku Smart Home, which are purchasable directly or available at Wal-Mart only, all connect directly to Roku TVs. The offering includes home monitoring, lighting, and power products.
“Simplicity is a key feature of Roku devices, and it’s at the foundation of Roku Smart Home,” writes Mark Robins, vice president of Roku Smart Home in an online blog. “Integration with Roku OS allows you to receive real-time alerts and view live streams of your Roku Smart Home camera and video doorbell from your Roku TV or player. Free and automatic software updates ensure your device is always up to speed. Plus, third party voice assistants and Roku Voice enable hands-free commands so you can be more hands-on around the house.”
The new cameras, video doorbells, lights, and plugs are certified by ioXt Alliance, and the devices include two-factor authentication, user data encryption, secure boot, and other advanced protection settings.

Floodlight Camera — $99 – Features include 1080p HD video and color night vision, motion and sound detection with customizable zones, dimmable, motion-activated floodlights, instant notifications. enhanced two-way audio and siren, stream to Roku TV or player, works with Google Assistant voice control, and Amazon Alexa.
Indoor and Outdoor Cameras –– $26 to $73 – Features include 1080p HD video and color night vision, long-lasting battery, stream to Roku TV or player.

Smart Light Strips — $22 to $44 – Linear lighting that can be peeled and stuck to surfaces with16 million color options, adjustable brightness and temperature, and the ability to create custom schedules, sleep mode, or vacation modes. The lights can sync to music, and has Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control.
Indoor and Outdoor Smart Plugs – $13 to $14 – Users can create custom schedules, sync multiple plugs. The plugs have Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice control.
