Combining cool aesthetics and in-demand functionality, venerable British audio brand Cambridge Audio will be introducing VU meters to its Evo range. The company says this brings a much-requested feature to the all-in-one players.
As other audio manufacturers have done on the loudspeaker side in recent years, the addition harkens back to what many call the golden age of audio.
Showing the live signal levels of audio gear, VU (volume unit) meters have become iconic for the retro ticking needles that defined an analog era, Cambridge Audio notes.
Via an over-the-air (OTA) software update in May 2024, all existing Evo 75 and Evo 150 units will be upgraded with the option to display VU meters on their prominent 6.8-inch LCD panel.
This gives listeners the choice to switch between viewing the new VU meters display, or to enjoy Evo’s ability to showcase the album artwork while playing a tune.

Cambridge Audio Also Goes Retro with DeLorean Edition
This announcement coincides with the announcement of the new Evo 150 DeLorean Edition, which will also benefit from the update.
Of course, that is also a nod to the past, paying homage to the famed DeLorean DMC-12 sports car.
Built upon the Evo 150 all-in-one integrated amplifier and network player, Evo 150 DeLorean Edition strips down to bare metal with meticulously crafted, brushed bodywork and silver detailing.
“This update brings shows our ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation in the Evo range – those out there with listeners, as well as those Evo products yet to come,” says James Johnson-Flint, owner of Cambridge.
“Watch out for further exciting developments coming to Evo.”
The $3,199 Cambridge Audio Evo 150 DeLorean Edition is available now in North America and Asia, and from April 2024 across Europe. The regular Evo 150 goes for $2,999 and the Evo 75 is $1,799 per the company’s website.
