InfoComm Announces CTS Exam Changes
Alterations to certification tests reflect shifts in focus in A/V industry.
InfoComm International has announced changes to all three CTS exams, effective July 1, that will create new job tasks “to reflect changes in the AV industry.”
The CTS, CTS-D and CTS-I exams will be updated again in April 2014 and October 2014, according to InfoComm’s announcement. The test changes are made after analysis “by testing professionals to measure the exams’ testing validity.”
The exams are also reviewed by subject matter experts for content, including changes based on ANSI/InfoComm standards. Additionally, exam questions are updated and/or new exam questions are added and retired on a regular basis, according to the announcement.
The new CTS exam removes “market A/V technologies” and “evaluate A/V personnel competencies” as business concepts, folding them into a single task: “perform A/V finance and job-costing activities.” The revised test also reduces the emphasis on estimating, purchasing and job-costing from nine questions to six.
The CTS-D exam, which focuses on design, now includes network design and configuration, system security, expanded content on digital video signals, digital content management, smart building technologies, and energy efficient design. The CTS-D test also adds business concepts that look at how test takers research clients’ business process and identify regulatory requirements and project certification goals.
CTS-I test-takers, who are targeting installation expertise, now must display their proficiency in network setup and configuration, wireless connectivity, wireless connectivity, including RF microphones and 802.11 microphones and 802.11 networks.
In all three exam categories, new standards beyond those already in place through InfoComm and ANSI will be added when applicable.
