CEDIA Unveils Student Membership/Internship Programs
Resources are designed to connect more technical, trade, and vocational students with careers in the electronic systems industry.
The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) is trying to boost the profile of custom integration as a career for young technically minded students with two new programs.
First, the association has added a Student Membership category to its current membership classifications. CEDIA’s Student Membership is available to anyone who is 17 years of age or older and is currently enrolled at an educational institute.
Those who join as student members of CEDIA receive a selection of organization member benefits designed to help assist them in continuing their career path in the electronic systems industry. Some of the selected benefits include member discounts on CEDIA University education courses and CEDIA Certifications, and free access to the CEDIA Expo tradeshow floor.
Second, CEDIA has created a Student Internship program. The Student Internship program is linked to the CEDIA Career Center and allows manufacturers, distributors, and electronic systems contractor companies to post internship opportunities. Student members can utilize the CEDIA Career Center to post their resume, search for internships, and even look for professional employment.
“The CEDIA Student Membership and Internship program are excellent tools that will help young electronic system professionals get involved in this industry,” says Utz Baldwin, CEDIA CEO. “Students represent the future of our industry, and CEDIA is committed to providing resources to support the next generation of electronic systems professionals.”
The CEDIA Student Membership is offered at an affordable annual rate and expires one year after graduation and/or upon being hired by a CEDIA member company.

I have yet to (in 10+ years) talk to a customer who had ever heard about or bring up CEDIA or its certifications. And I have never lost out on a job because I do not have it. I have asked others who have certifications and they also don’t get asked about it.
