Boulder Adds Customizable 1008 Phono Preamplifier
Features a rugged chassis, multiple inputs, a low-cut filter and a selectable mono mode for monaural recordings played back with a stereo cartridge.
The high-performance audio category, while advocating the benefits of digital technologies, has never abandoned legacy analog technologies like vinyl.
A good example of how the high-performance audio industry is improving the quality of older analog technologies can be found in Boulder Amplifiers' latest product: the 1008 Phono Preamplifier.
The Colorado-based company's new phono preamp uses many of the technologies employed in its flagship 2008 Phono Preamplifier at a price tag that's approximately one-third of the top-end model (but still in Boulder's luxury level at $12,000).
The customizable phono preamp offers vinyl enthusiasts a choice of three EQ curves in addition to the standard RIAA curve that are included in most products. These EQ curves — FFRR, Columbia and EMI — are selectable on the preamp's front panel and they are designed to provide consumers with the ability to accurately playback records produced prior to 1954.
Other features include: an additional 6dB gain for moving coil (MC) cartridges, Boulder's discrete 985 gain stage, fully balanced, dual mono construction for completely isolated left and right channels, dual inputs and outputs, a 20Hz low-cut filter and a selectable true mono mode for the playback of mono recordings on a stereo cartridge.
