Berkline to Shut Down, Liquidate
Furniture Today reported that Berkline is planning to shutter its business and liquidate all of its assets. CE Pro has confirmed the news with Berkline’s PR rep.
The upholstery and home theater seating company has apparently been trying to sell for quite some time.
“It has determined that an orderly liquidation of substantially all of the company’s assets is the only viable course of action,” Berkline said in a statement.
According to the announcement, the company has slowly been in decline since 2008. The move will leave more than 600 people out of work.
“Berkline … is disappointed by the decision to liquidate, and … deeply regrets the impact this will have on its employees, customers, suppliers and communities,” the release said.
Berkline was founded in 1928 in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1937, the company expanded to Morristown, Tennessee, which has served as its headquarters ever since.

They can’t compete with cheap Chinese crap brought in by companies like SnapAV. Another 600 people without jobs, maybe they can move to China and get jobs!
Quit buying cheap crap from China or your job might be next!
Another company loses the race to the bottom…
dboy, so you take a CHEAP shot at Snap AV for being competive? Name an American company that has the product breadth and QUALITY that Snap AV has? YOU CANT! You can knock American companies all you want to however YOU are the cheapster here taking out your bootay. Next, convince your “customers” to pay twice as much for the same quality, you cant. Not that all chinese “crap” is the same, some is crap not all.
YOU start an American company and learn what it takes to survive.Go slam your trunk.
Apologies for the typo’s and what appears to be a ranting during a bad day. Not a good excuse however, lol.
The same Berkline selling cheap seats at Costco..dboy, I am not sure how you can even make that statement about SnapAV. When is the last time I had a customer say “you want how much for your chairs??? I can get SnapAV chairs for $$$!!” No matter that I could provide custom leathers, colors, configurations, sizes and most importantly a WELL BUILT, QUALITY, COMFORTABLE CHAIR!!!, it was almost a foregone conclusion that when trying to add chairs into the mix, clients would bring up Berkline. They set the Expectation of what chairs should cost. I hate to see a company go out of business and people lose their jobs, but if they could not make it selling the low price chair with the volume of Costco and online and such, then maybe their pricing and business model was not fully baked. Reminds me of a lot of other companies in the CE world and as one poster said-the Race to the Bottom…
@ Tuck
I think you are the first person I have ever encountered on the internet who apologized for a flame—and quite well.
THANK YOU.
A little civility never hurt anyone.

Werent their chairs pretty low quality? Not that that is a reason for liquidation.
