Fiberoptic Studio, creators of iSky Panel Systems, announced that its patented starfield ceiling will be featured on the television program "HGTV’d" airing Saturday, September 24 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern and Pacific. iSky was contacted by the show’s producers in June when their research discovered the company’s starfield ceiling was perfect for this client’s home theater dream makeover. The premise of the show involves homeowners who submit a video of an area of their home that needs a makeover. HGTV then sends one of its design personalities out. The HGTV’d episode… View this story

There are lots of questions among integrators about room equalization, both from a technique standpoint and whether built-in room EQ systems are the same as standalone systems. Here are three myths about room EQ you may not know. EQ, DSP Can Fix All Room Acoustic Problems As important as proper room equalization is, it cannot fix all your room acoustic woes. The acoustic properties of a room, such as dimensions and wall/ceiling materials, and items in the room, such as furniture, have as much, if not more, to do with… View this story

Imagine, if you will, the acoustical panels in a home theater. You're probably picturing something red, maybe maroon, maybe even blue. Maybe you're picturing that universally-used zigzagy pattern somebody once decided was perfect for home theaters. You're probably not picturing a tropical beach, the streets of Venice or your favorite movies' posters. Cinemacoustic Solutions is looking to breathe new life in the acoustic treatment category with its Cinema Imagery Product line, which allows customers to choose an image to be embedded in their acoustic panels. They can pick their vacation… View this story

A really good sounding, acoustically-treated home theater with first-rate seating costs over $100,000. That’s the popular perception anyway, according to Cinema Design Group International (CDGi), which hopes to change that with its Indi Line of Theater Designs and Seating. CDGi says the line allows dealers to offer a complete home theater package — a great-sounding, great-looking home theater complete with electronics of their choice for about $20,000. The new line comes as a response to dealer and manufacturer rep feedback, according to CDGi. “The CE market is working through a… View this story

Acoustics solutions provider Cinema Design Group International (CDGi) has created a division dedicated to serving the commercial audio/video industry. CDGiPro springs from a reorganization, according to a statement by the company's board of directors. CEO and president Jeffrey Galea talked to CE Pro in June 2009 about reorganization plans that involved being granted Chapter 727 status under Florida Statutes. Galea said the company would emerge from the Chapter 727 status as "a shiny, new CDGI." The commercial division is clearly part of that vision. “For years dealers have been using… View this story

A big trend in court proceedings these days is videoconferencing between the jail and the courtroom. It saves money by doing away with the costs and inconveniences of escorting prisoners from one location to the other. But there can be problems. The Pinellas County Jail in Florida installed a videoconferencing system in 2008 between the jail and the adjacent Pinellas County Court. The system was working correctly, but judges were having a difficult time understanding what people were saying. The problem: sound reverberations and echo in the room. The concrete… View this story

If you own a leave blower and know where a phone booth still exists, you might want to start practicing. SnapAV will have a money booth where participants can win cash during CEDIA Expo 2009. “Dealers can literally get into the booth and start grabbing money,” says Adam Levy, marketing VP. The marketing tie-in, of course, is: “This personifies how we see SnapAV, as a company that enables dealers to increase their profits and grab more money!” When they’re not grabbing money, SnapAV hopes CE pros will check out its… View this story
