Weatherproof B&W Speakers take Different Approach to Low End Reproduction

Just in time for the 2013 spring season B&W announced its AM-1 outdoor loudspeaker. The speaker is available in a choice of black or white, and the two-way speaker features a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and a 5-inch glass fiber midrange driver. B&W aligns the tweeter below the woofer and the company says this driver arrangement ensures better sound dispersion when the speaker is mounted high on a wall. The AM-1 also features a rear-mounted bass radiator to help augment its low frequency capabilities, and the company points out that it can be mounted vertically or horizontally to accommodate a range of installation scenarios.

Designed to withstand the harshness of outdoor installations the speaker employs an enclosure made from a combination of glass-filled plastics and a rust-proof aluminum grille protects the drivers. B&W says the cabinet can stand up to UV rays, dust, moisture and cold, and that the speaker can be used for home and commercial installations.
