OpenPeak Makes Utilities Bypass Integrators

image

OpenPeak has launched an interactive display that shows homeowners their energy usage in real time, allowing them to change consumption.

Instead of being a system for custom installers, however, the Home Energy Management Solution is designed for utilities to deploy directly to customers.

That means utility companies are poised to “steal” money right out of your pocket.

The OpenPeak system “displays real-time energy usage and pricing in a graphic-rich centralized user interface that sits right on the kitchen counter, or anywhere else in the home, for easy access and monitoring. The interface allows users to make adjustments to household thermostats to optimize energy efficiency and take advantage of off-peak pricing opportunities.”

Sound familiar? It’s something integrators should be deploying for their customers integrating a whole-house control solution with line voltage monitoring.

The OpenPeak touchscreen interface also includes applications for news, sports, weather, social networking, calendaring and instant messaging. It can communicate with other devices ZigBee and Wi-Fi.

Sounds even more familiar!

Verizon and a phone company in the United Kingdom are already using OpenPeak products.

let me know when / how you can buy this wonderful device ecosystem?  zigbee support is not implemented yet…  utilities will not supply this w/o stimulus funding.

Other than via utilities, the company’s sales channel is not clear from the Web site.
