QR Code on Audio Authority Amp Assists Installers
The new SF-16 amplifier from Audio Authority has a QR code on the back for installers in the field to quickly access specs and instructions via their smartphones.
Audio Authority had a QR (Quick Response) code on the back of its new SonaFlex-16 amplifier. The QR code is one of those square black-and-white, fast-read, matrix-style bar codes for smartphones that are becoming extremely popular to drive consumers directly to a website.
Audio Authority's Anthony Grote came up with the idea for the new 16-channel digital amplifier. When the QR code is scanned in the field by a technician, it links him directly to an installation manual so he can never be without a manual on the job.
The feature is certainly another sign of the times. I expect other manufacturers may be taking note of this. Very cool.

I like it; great idea!
its a shame the QR Code is inverted, not all readers can read inverted QR Codes
I was wondering if anyone would notice that! The SF-16 amp at the show was a prototype.
Shipping product (Nov/Dec 2011) will have a revised silk screen that includes a white background around the QR code. Good catch!

I will have to steal that idea. Brilliant!
We’ve used QR Tags on all of our products since we opened last year. It’s immensely helpful for installers in the field because at any time they can scan the label and get support and warranty info, registration info, contact info, etc. It also has the model numbers, serial numbers, IP addresses, etc. so that they can send us a picture of the tag without having to read out all of the numbers if they need an RMA for any reason.
It’s a great way to give a lot of information with very little effort on both ends. Our clients seem to love it!
Forgot to mention…..seeing as all of the information is embedded in the tag, there is no internet connection necessary on the device that reads it. So if you’re in a home with no cell signal you can still access the info!

Very cool idea
