Since U.S. Marines lay their lives on the line for our freedom, it's good to see that they are getting to experience the luxuries of home theater, lighting control and wireless networking.

According to the L.A. Times, five new living facilities at Camp Pendleton in Southern California feature a slew of technology features, including a computer room with Wi-Fi, lighting control occupancy sensors and a common room with a 60-inch HDTV and theater seating with drink holders. On the roof, the facility has solar panels. A sixth unit, which consists of three-and -four buildings, is being constructed.

The upgrades are part of a $2.5 billion government program to upgrade the living facilities for the Marine Corps across the nation.

Other non-tech amenities include horseshoe pits, tennis courts, a nine-hole disc golf course, roller-hockey court, sand volleyball court, basketball courts, putting green, barbecue grills, shaded picnic area, amphitheater, bicycle storage rack, pool tables, laundry facilities and a "boot wash."

The facilities are similar to the high-rise AMX-controlled towers built for the U.S. Navy in San Diego in 2010.

It sounds a lot better than Afghanistan. Congratulations, you guys and gals deserve it.
