The co-founder of Colorbeam North America says almost every issue that arises with LED lighting can be solved by tweaking one simple thing: which cable you use.

"We have lighting designers on staff, so we're very involved in the forefront of our projects, even being hired as the integrator," says Maurizio Gaudio, co-founder. "So we saw all the problems that were evolving with the LED technology. We said, there must be something out there that can integrate better with the technology that we're already putting into our projects."

That's when the lightbulb went off. Since Cat 5 cabling is used for so many installations nowadays — like video and even digital audio — why not lighting?

Four years later, Colorbeam is launching its product. The company offers lighting fixtures with different wattages that work off of a Cat 5 cable that go to a remote driver. Colorbeam sells the cans, trims and fixtures themselves.

"We came up with our own lighting system that encompasses LED and works in the integration market with all products," says Gaudio. "The dimming is fluid, integrators can choose color temperatures ... and even monitor and save the ones customers like to see."

This low-voltage LED lighting system is designed to enhance the customer experience in the residential, commercial and hospitality market through innovative lighting design. Headquartered in Montreal, Colorbeam distributes throughout North America via a network of audiovisual and low voltage integrators.

"We're really at the beginning of the LED technology still," says Gaudio. "It's been around for a few years now, but the world of LED lighting has endless possibilities."
