#TBT: A Day in the Life of a One-Man Shop

Back in 2011 CE Pro learned how Cory Plummer, owner of Home A/V Solutions in Gray, Maine, handles everything from bookkeeping to service calls and through it all, a typical day is anything but typical.

As part of a collaborative project with CEDIA, CE Pro chronicled the daily activities of Cory Plummer, owner of Home A/V Solutions.

CE Pro goes back to July of 2011 in this edition of Throwback Thursday.

His day starts out pretty much like most working parents. Cory Plummer, owner of Home A/V Solutions in the suburbs of Portland, Maine, gets up, drops his kids off at the bus stop and heads to work.

Unlike most Americans that go to the office, the manufacturing plant or retail establishment, Plummer’s day isn’t as neatly defined. He leads a near nomadic career as an electronics installation business owner with varied work environments and tasks.

Like many CE pros who are the owners of a one-man shop, Plummer often finds himself having to balance the administrative and in-the-field technical responsibilities necessary to drive his business.

As part of a collaborative project with CEDIA, CE Pro is chronicling the activities of various integrators. In chronicling a day spent with Plummer, it’s apparent that not only does it take an even-tempered approach to dealing with clients, but it’s also helpful to have some experience to draw upon when handling mundane responsibilities such as customer prospecting or invoicing client payments.
