For a pre-determined fixed rate, Express 48 provides an added layer of support for dealers who may require expedited repairs during time-sensitive projects. Does Apple Want Crestron’s iPanel Name?
Jason Knott | 04/11 09:29 AM,
4 Comments
Apparently the folks at Crestron are mind readers when it comes to selecting product names. Crestron currently owns a potentially valuable product name: iPanel. Apple has been rumored for months now to be launching a flat-panel TV. One of the big questions is what will Apple call the product? The name iTV has been a frontrunner, but it is already owned by a British broadcasting network that has vowed to protect the name. The latest rumor, from noted industry analyst Peter Misek of Barron's, Jefferies & Co., says Apple is…

Julie Jacobson | 02/06 10:50 AM,

ISE 2012 attracted more than 40,000 attendees during the three-day event that recently concluded at the Amsterdam RAI. The commercial- and residential-focused trade show also saw the number of exhibitors increase 15 percent to 825 in the 11 halls of the Amsterdam RAI. And with more exhibitors comes more products and more, well, interesting sights. I don't have a "best of" list, but here I've rounded up some of the more interesting products on display at ISE 2012, as well as a few notable happenings. Click here for ISE 2012:…

Crestron Demos Microsoft Kinect Gesture Control
Tom LeBlanc | 02/03 09:24 AM,
10 Comments
Crestron grabbed some eyeballs at Integrated Systems Europe 2012 in Amsterdam by demonstrating how its control systems can read Microsoft Kinect gestures. Crestron says it has been testing a new technology by Microsoft that allows Kinect technology to be supported on any Windows-based system, and not just Xbox as in the past. From Crestron: Crestron engineers created, and are testing, gestures that integrate Kinect with Crestron control. Crestron control systems will read Kinect gestures so, for example, presenters can sweep their hands left or right to advance/reverse a PowerPoint Presentation…

Crestron Core 3 UI Takes Pain Out of Programming
CE Pro Editors | 01/19 11:59 AM,
0 Comments
Crestron is now shipping its new Core 3 UI platform for select touchscreens. The graphical interface lets dealers drag-and-drop prewritten “SmartObjects” onto their interface designs, and resize them simply (and perfectly) thanks to “SmartScaling” vector-based graphics. Here’s how Crestron describes it: SmartScaling technology takes the pain out of resizing multi-layered objects, such as virtual keypads. Rather than multiple objects (buttons, text, borders, etc.), each requiring resizing or other graphical editing, Core 3 UI treats a complex object as a single item. Resizing a keypad, for example, is as simple as…

Jason Knott | 01/09 09:08 AM,
1 Comment
The new Crestron Connected initiative will provide the framework for a distributed cloud-based control system and simplify the process of automating a home theater. Crestron is embedding a version of its Fusion RV software into a wide selection of source equipment and display, including Blu-ray Disc players, HDTVs and audio/video receivers. Users will then be able to simply plug the Crestron Connected device into a home or enterprise network, using standard Ethernet cable, and begin monitoring, controlling and managing it from any web-enabled computer, smartphone, or tablet from anywhere in…

Neat-O: Overhauling Massive Wireless Network
Arlen Schweiger | 12/22 10:41 AM,
1 Comment
Clients need a robust home network system these days. Especially for coverage over a 10,000-square-foot house whose owner is requesting two separate, but equally bandwidth-intensive, networks. Apparently one integrator was not quite up to the challenge, because Carrolton, Texas-based Eco High Fidelity had to answer the call to make the original project work properly - and then some. “A client had a wireless network in his home that he wasn’t satisfied with,” says Eco High Fidelity lead technician Jonathan Hughes. “He wanted the ability to stream four Kaleidescape players simultaneously,…
