What CE Pros Want From CEDIA Expo 2009
We asked CE pros what they're hoping to see at CEDIA Expo 2009 in Atlanta. Here's a sampling of responses.
We asked integrators what they hope to see at CEDIA Expo 2009, Sept. 9–13 in Atlanta. The answers ranged from "a replacement for Pioneer Elite" to "it's not worth attending."
Here's a sample of the responses:
"Things like HDMI 1.4, 4K and 3D [TV] will be shown there and I'm looking forward to seeing and learning about those technologies." - Ken Erdmann, Erdmann Electric and CEDIA chairman
"We are not interested in expanding our lines of products, unless we find something to solve a problem like HDMI over Cat 6 that works well and economically. We're watching the IP category; watching what Control4 is doing; looking for unusual accessory add-on type things; watching the iPod, iPhone category; looking for cool low-cost solutions to try to expand our client base; paying more attention to in-wall subwoofers; the hard-drive category is getting flooded but we are considering not doing anything in it because of so many failures — we're wondering what other companies are doing for solutions; displays is a problem area right now with Pioneer Elite going away so I will be asking other companies how they are staying profitable in this category." - Gary Nedelisky, Quadrant Systems
"A/V distribution and control is one thing, but I really want to see some exciting new products that will continue to make home automation a reality for more people." - Joel Hawbaker, Epic Integrated A/V
"Due to the loss of Pioneer Elite, our primary focus will be to shop for a new TV line." - Kaleb Plamondon, Stereo Planet
"I am concerned that many manufacturers won't be exhibiting! Perhaps the attendance will be so low that it will be more personal [dealing with manufacturers]." - Brad Smith, Audio Video Design
"Lighting controls, especially wireless and retrofit; home networking options; LED lighting options; and our new area, digital home health care solutions." - Mason Louis Hulle, Active/Casa Interativa
"Going in search of ideas on how to maximize profits on each and every job when clients are in the mindset to cut back on the extras." - Rick Bourdon, Ambiance Audio Design
"I am looking for a sales person, possibly someone available from a company not doing so well or failed. Talent is always something we are interested in finding! Now might be a good time." Nedelisky, Quadrant Systems
Nedelisky also has a list of questions for manufacturers:
