Media server can store about 3,500 DVDs or 880 Blu-ray movies.
08.05.2008 — VidaBox is introducing its RACK24 Server that features 22TB of storage and RAID6 protection.
The RACK24 has up to 24 field-serviceable hard drives and quad-core processing. With 22TB of storage, the server stores about 3,350 DVDs or 880 Blu-ray movies.
"Unlike our other RACK series servers, the RACK24 is designed solely as a centralized storage device, allowing the system's processing power to be dedicated towards delivering full-quality, high-definition streams of movies, music, pictures, and other multimedia content for more than 10 VidaBox extenders," says VidaBox president Steven Cheung.
The server's storage can start with as little as 2TB of storage and can be upgraded over time.
RAID6 protection allows the system to keep running without interruption or data loss even if two drives have failed.
In the event a hard drive fails, the server has an auto-monitoring service that automatically alerts the installer.
The RACK24, which runs on Windows Server 08 or Linux, also features 1080p scaling, a built-in media card reader, TiVo-like video features and can browse the Web and check email.
VidaBox says the RACK24 will start shipping August 15. Pricing was not announced.
