04.23.2008 — Universal Remote Control has released scintillating details about its new KP-900 Wireless Keypad, first introduced at EHX Spring.

The KP-900 has three center keys and three sets of keycaps: one for volume control, one for transport control, and one blank set.

It’s iPod-compatible and operates using IR signals with a range of 30 to 50 feet, or RF signals with a range of 50 to 100 feet.

The KP-900 is compatible with URC’s MSC-400 Master System Controller and has four megabits of memory, allowing up to 400 pages of commands to be distributed into as many as 255 devices.

“The KP-900 is the result of a well-considered evaluation of end user preferences and installer needs,” says URC director of marketing Jon Sienkiewicz.

“It’s also a reflection of the evolving nature of the digital home environment. End users increasingly expect high levels of portability, versatility and functionality from their control devices, and the KP-900 enables our network of professional installer dealers to deliver all that and much more to their clients.”

The company says the keypad can be mounted on any surface, including brick, sheetrock and plaster, making it good for retrofitting.

The device also has built-in magnets, allowing it to stick to metal surfaces, including most refrigerators.

The KP-900 (MSRP $499) is available in white, black and light almond.
