SpeakerCraft at CEDIA 2008: Awesome or Annoying?
With the sluggish economy and the general blahs in the CE community, you'd think the outrageous show at SpeakerCraft would be a welcome respite for weary dealers, especially given the anticipation of another wardrobe malfunction (or was it?).
Was the display "an embarrasment" and "a joke," as AnthonyZ says on RemoteCentral.com?
Or was it "the single most creative booth event of the year," as integrator Lee Distad called it?
I think he meant that in a good way.

Anyone have any pictures of the wardrobe malfunction?
It was a typical smoke and mirrors attempt to divert your attention away from an inferior product, plain and simple.
“Helping dealers in a tough economy” - “Sent a rep out to the field” WOW, how gracious. Big F’ing deal. Don’t think for a moment that it wasn’t self serving. A “we’ll help you so we can keep our jobs” mentality shouldn’t be applauded.
I left Denver Saturday morning so I missed out on the whole Smokey-banning incident but that just goes to show you the intellect of those at CEDIA.
Yes, the show was for industry only but the press is all over it, it’s in the papers, on the net; your clients will find out about it. Mission accomplished…draw as much attention to yourself to avoid the real reason the show is in place to begin with. I’ve never been a fan of the ‘there’s no such thing as bad publicity’ mentality.
We have two large deals (both over 175k) with deposits on them right now, all SC SKU’s were pulled off Monday morning. Is that what you wanted? Save the tats, chain wallets and wanna be bad boy image for the ##### angels rally, few are impressed.
what is wrong with all of you guys? a friend who saw the booth in question sent me a link to this website. im not in this business and have no idea who any of you are, but i can tell you that i have never heard such ridiculous bickering back and forth. are you all 90 years old with nothing better to do? this is pure comedy. our country is in complete shambles and you whiners are wasting time posting about a trade show booth. (i guess i am doing the same, but at least i am saying you guys are retarded). i challenge any of you to write something of substance that matters to your fellow citizens. writing about a stupid booth that was set up last weekend and is now in the trash constitutes complete ignorance from so called “business men”. its also apparent that this company did something right since people are still talking about their booth. all of you are gay. even if you think the booth was great. get back to your online dungeons & dragons game.
Our industry is about entertainment. Makes sense to me that we go to our show and are entertained as well.
Now the PA announcement Thursday afternoon…...that’s another issue.
Phil_L the word Retarded by definition has no association a group of people. I doubt he meant to denigrate the mentally disabled.
Say what you will. Speakercraft created the “Main Attraction” at CEDIA. Why do we as a profession have to take ourselves so seriously? The last time I checked this show was NOT for consumers. Going beyond the unusual appearance of the Speakercraft booth people should have opened their ears to here the message of Speakercraft, which was and is right on target. They were talking about how we as an industry can improve ourselves and maybe stay in business longer by improving business practices. As a system integrator with 15 years in the trenches and lots of black and blue marks it’s about time we stop talking about speakers and talk about business. If you are reading this comment I implore you to find the Speakercraft message and listen to it attentively!
Some of you people really need to lighten up. This isn’t a trade show for doctors and missionary workers. Let’s face it. We are all basically in the construction industry and I personally have found the CEDIA shows to be a bit on the lame side. I say good for SpeakerCraft for lightening things up a little.
PedleyWFO = clueless
Were trying to run businesses… Not run for political office.
Absolutely beautiful!
Thank you Jeremy!
um…
Hmm…their booth was packed throughout the ENTIRE SHOW.
More than can be said for Sonance, Niles, Russound, or Tru-Audio.
Haters can hate, but the fact is, ‘Craft is King.
Lighten up all Ward Cleavers of the world.
Go sell something and worry about something real, like starving children in the world.
I am relatively new to CEDIA and have not made an opinion of where SC speakers rank, quality wise, but since when has good marketing been any indication of quality? Anybody heard of Bose?
The job of marketing is to get people to stop and look. On that, SC did a heck of a job. You’ve got to be different to be noticed. There were a hundred speaker manufacturers on the floor and SC will be one of the ones I’ll remember.
As for the “meat,” SC provided free classes on business topics and the retrofit class on Saturday was one of the better sessions I attended.
esddesign if that’s their message how does their booth convey that. Gimmicks will only get you so far. I wasn’t there, but I wonder what They did to get that word out. If anything.
BOBO does their booth help sell anymore speakers. I doubt it. Maybe they should of worried about something “real”. I bet the cost of that booth could have feed a lot of starving children.

Was not impressed, if I did not have a speaker line already I would not have chose them. There really was not anything to look at, and when I went in there to ask them some questions everyone was too busy partying to help out. At least that was my take on the matter. I actually needed some info to service some of my clients that have their products but left.
