At PCBC this week, Sony has unveiled a multiroom HD video solution designed for custom installers, the CAV-CVS12ES HD video distribution system.

The 12-zone system distributes HD video via one Cat5e wire per zone, hooking in eight component inputs and four upscaling composite inputs. The component inputs can handle up to a 1080p HD signal. The CAV-CVS12ES also features IR and RS-232 control.

"With the rapid growth and popularity of HD video, custom installers are looking to integrate solutions that satisfy the desire for connectivity throughout the entire home," says Neal Manowitz, director of marketing for Sony Electronics' consumer systems and applications division, in a press release. "The CAV-CVS12ES adds HD video to the Sony CAV-M1000ES audio system, allowing custom installers to deliver on the consumer demand for whole house HD distribution."

The Cat5e wiring will connect to a component adapter in the room's display. Sony will be selling the CAV-CVB1, a Cat5e to component box, for $129 is September.

The CAV-CVS12ES will be available in September for $2,700.

Sony is also introducing an updated line of the company's NHS rack systems at PCBC, targeted to the new home construction market. The NHS-3040 handles up to 13 zones of HD video distribution as well as one Blu-ray player.

The other two products in the NHS 40 series, the NHS-1040 and NHS-2040, can support six HD zones in addition to the 7.1 HDMI home theater system. The NHS-2040 and NHS-3040 products feature a 400 disc DVD changer and management system.

The entire line includes an 80 GB music server, XM Satellite Radio support, a single-disc Blu-ray player, three additional auxiliary inputs, support for an additional HD cable or satellite receiver, and room for a three zone expansion.

"Integrated home entertainment is becoming a more important factor for new home buyers in the custom and semi-custom market," says Manowitz in a statement. "These new systems are ideal for builders and installers because they reduce time spent on procurement and integrating individual components, and offer the consumer a whole house HD solution with all the features of custom installation without the custom price tag."
