Sensio 3DGO! On-Demand 3D Service Coming to Connected TVs

Sensio's 3DGO! on-demand 3D service will be available as an application for connected TVs and offer a wide variety of content.

While 3D continues to struggle for mass adoption, especially in the United States, one pioneering company for bringing the format to home video continues its push.

The latest offering from technology provider Sensio is a dedicated 3D on-demand service, called 3DGO!, which it plans to showcase at CES.

It also brings together the tide of 3D and connectivity feature-sets populating just about every new TV out there. Sensio says the VOD store, targeted for arrival this spring, will be available as an application on connected 3D TVs that support the company's Sensio Hi-Fi 3D technology.

That perhaps means we'll see it first from Vizio, whose TVs incorporate the Hi-Fi 3D and give viewers access to a slew of apps. Sensio became the first proprietary 3D format to be integrated into a 3D TV with Vizio's XVT series in 2010.

Sensio did not elaborate on how much the content will cost or detail specifics of what will be available on 3DGO!, except to say it will range from "blockbuster studio titles to must-see documentaries" in announcing the service's launch.

“We committed ourselves to bringing added value to our Sensio Hi-Fi 3D clients and to keeping them one step ahead,” says Nicholas Routhier, president and CEO. “We know customers want more 3D content and easy/convenient access to it. This is exactly why we are launching 3DGO!. For the first time, consumers will get an easy access to the largest on demand 3D dedicated library directly from their 3DTV. 3DGO! is the simplest way to make a good use of any 3D TV.”

The timing appears ripe for more connected 3D TVs to incorporate the VOD service soon, too. The announcement comes on the heels of Sensio's recent partnership with Marvell to incorporate the Hi-Fi 3D technology into its chipsets -- of which it ships more than a billion per year.

“Our new chipset incorporates Sensio technology in response to a growing demand from OEMs who, we believe, will enjoy even greater flexibility in developing high-end 3D systems for the home viewing environment,” says Atul Batra, senior director of DTV products at Marvell Semiconductor.

The real boon with Marvell could be with the OEM provider's news that happens to coincide with Sensio's 3DGO! announcement - that the semiconductor designer's chips will power the next generation of Google TV.

While people and manufacturers were underwhelmed by the first-gen Google TV iteration, perhaps the product will be more market-ready this time around when it arrives later this year ... maybe with a fresh new 3D VOD app?

Hey this sounds great seeing as how I just bought a sensuous equipped vizio TV. So when are you going to be up and running. Please email me more about this. I’d love to be one of the first customers.
