Projector Sales Up 38% in Q3
Quixel Research’s Q3 2012 Home Theater and Home Entertainment (HT-HE) Front Projection Market Review reveals a nice rebound for the projector category last quarter, with shipments up 38 percent from Q2’12 to Q3’12.
Revenues for projectors also grew to $75 million for the quarter, a 14 percent increase. However, the report indicates that lower resolution models gained volume share from Q2’12 to Q3’12. The report also notes that the DLP technology segment posted the highest growth Q2’12 to Q3’12, while LCOS units struggled.

According to Tamaryn Pratt, Quixel Research’s principal, “After a tough second quarter, the residential front projection category saw a nice bounce in volume and value for Q3 2012. Manufacturers are expanding their offering in the low cost and low resolution segments, making the products available to a wider audience.”
She adds, “The DLP segment, which has been trailing the HT PolySilicon segment for year, really came alive in Q3, with shipments up 48 percent Q2’12 to Q3’12. The LCOS segment continues to struggle, and declined for the second quarter in a row.”
