If you buy a PC at Walmart.com during the holidays, you can get free technical support services -- such as virus removal, free anitivirus software, remote diagnostics and repairs – through Walmart partner iYogi, headquartered in India.
The offer is a promotion by iYogi, which is trying to expand its reach in the U.S. consumer market,
Dow Jones reports.
The free service, valued at $100, also includes Windows 7 migration.
"We're anticipating Windows 7 is going to drive a lot of sales," iYogi co-founder Vishal Dhar told Dow Jones.
Outside of the holiday promotion, iYogi's remote PC service starts at about $20 for software installation and tops out at $153 for a year of unlimited service on a personal computer, according to Dow Jones.
You'll have to look hard to find the service on Walmart.com, though (
search for iYogi). The service does not seem to be mentioned in the Electronics or PC sections of the site, and we couldn't find a mention of the holiday promotion anywhere on Walmart.com.
Wal-Mart began offering in-store PC support services, a la Geek Squad, last month. This month, the retailing giant launched an in-home
A/V and PC installation service offered through NEW, an established consumer electronics warranty company.
