There's a lot of interest in all those connected TVs unleashed at
CES 2009, according to
Oregan Networks.
A
new study found 71 percent of respondents "would prefer a default media browser to be installed" into their next HDTV.
If the TV didn't come with a built-in browser, 29 percent of respondents say they "definitely would" download one, while 45 percent would "likely" download one.
The study also found:
- 69 percent of respondents would pay to download a digital media browser to their next TV
- 87 percent of respondents would select a TV with a media browser because it offers more entertainment
The study also says online services such as
YouTube and
Hulu, as well as
Netflix and
CinemaNow, add the most value to a TV set.
According to Oregan Networks, the ability to access Video on Demand services without a PC is the most valuable feature of a TV media browser. The ability to search a home network for content on other devices was the second-most valuable feature, while access to user-generated content on YouTube was third.
