CES was all about 3D this year, with
TVs and
Blu-ray players showcased throughout Las Vegas.
Sony announced that its BDP-S470 3D-ready Blu-ray player will be out in February, with the 3D ability coming as a firmware upgrade "this summer."
The upgrade will also be available for Sony's BDP-S570 Blu-ray player and its BDV-E770W and BDV-E570 Blu-ray home theater systems.
The BDP-S470 will go for around $200, while the BDP-S570 will be about $250, also in February. The S570 features built in WiFi, and the S470 is wireless ready (you'll need an adapter).
With that network connection, there also are a slew of Web features that are becoming key to the Blu-ray experience these days, so the Sony models aren't lacking there: "all of the new models instantly stream movies, videos, music, and more from Netflix, Amazon Video On Demand, YouTube, Slacker Internet Radio, Pandora (coming this spring), NPR, Sony Pictures, Sony Music, and over 25 total providers through the Sony BRAVIA Internet Video platform."
Both can support SACD high-res music. Sony's created an iPhone/iPod touch (presumably iPad, too) app to control the Blu-ray players and pull up metadata.
