Many integrators quietly go about their business, creating exceptional installations based on Windows Vista Media Center.
Now Microsoft wants to draw attention to those custom installers with the new Windows Media Center Ultimate Install Contest.
"We're interested in helping people [integrators] who are doing cool things with Media Center to feel good about it," says Scott Evans, Microsoft program manager for eHome devices. "But also we want to show others who aren't doing it what they're missing out on."
The contest was launched on Sept. 6 and has a deadline of Nov. 1. The winner will be announced at the Electronic House Expo (EHX), Nov. 6-9, in Long Beach, Calif. (
http://www.ehxweb.com).
To qualify, the solution must be designed for and installed as part of a residential electronics system. Commercial installations, including dealers' own showrooms, are not eligible.
Judges will evaluate entries on the following criteria:
• Use of Windows Media Center as primary user interface (UI) for media consumption in room or system (depending on scope of install)
• Use of Windows Media Center experiences (e.g., television, music, video, pictures, DVD library)
• Integration with other, non-PC CE devices
• ability to create a seamless user experience
• Creativity and originality
In addition to prizes awarded by Microsoft, winners and others who submit creative installations will be featured in both CE Pro and Electronic House magazines and online.
A special awards event will honor the winner at EHX.
Companies may submit up to two unique entries.
