Global TV shipments increased 11 percent year-to-year (Y/Y) to 47.5 million units in Q2, according to DisplaySearch.

Quarterly Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report says those figures also represent a 3 percent quarter-to-quarter (Q/Q) increase.

DisplaySearch also recently said North American TV shipments increased 26 percent in the quarter.

LCD TVs led the way with a 49.8 percent unit share, increasing 47 percent Y/Y to 23.7 million units.

Plasmas had the strongest Y/Y growth at 52 percent to 3.4 million units, thanks to more 32-inch and 1080p models.

Flat-panel TV share rose 57 percent globally in Q2 as LCDs regained the unit share lead from CRTs.

LCDs accounted for 28 percent of TV shipments in the quarter, according to DisplaySearch.

Samsung expanded its LCD TV shipment share to a record 20.4 percent. Samsung reported a 51 percent increase in Q2 profits, attributing that growth to its LCD sales.

Sony and LG were second and third with 13 percent and 10 percent shares, respectively.

Plasma's share of the TV market reached a record 7.1 percent. Panasonic remains the leading plasma TV brand globally with 32.9 percent unit share.

Shipments of 32-inch TVs climbed to the second-highest level ever at just over 9 million units, according to the report.
