While the completely connected kitchen has been talked about for years, the products haven't always sold as well as expected.

LG, for example, has tried to push connected appliances since the late '90s. They've had an Internet-connected refrigerator, washer and dryer, and even a Net-connected microwave oven.

But it hasn't always worked.

It's not that consumers don't want connected devices in their kitchen. The Internet Home Alliance notes six products consumers are looking for in their connected kitchen:
  • a home control station
  • an energy usage monitoring and control system
  • wireless Internet access
  • a recipe projection system
  • a digital calendar
  • a universal charging station
It's not just appliances like fridges and ovens that are getting connected, though.

While control seems to be the overwhelming theme for kitchen connectivity, A/V manufacturers are offering kitchen-specific products as well.
