OSD Audio line matching amplifier transformer
With a price tag of $130, OSD Audio's new MTR-500 line-matching amplifier transformer allows installers to use multiple pairs of 70-volt speakers with an 8-ohm amplifier.
The MTR line matching transformer can be used to retrofit an existing whole-house or commercial audio system with additional 70-volt speakers without damaging a standard consumer-grade amplifier.
For years the residential electronics and commercial electronics markets have operated almost entirely on an exclusive basis with very little crossover.
With the release of OSD Audio's MTR-500 line matching amplifier transformer installation professionals can use a standard consumer-grade 8-ohm amplifier with multiple pairs of 70-volt speakers. The Brea, Calif.-based company says the product converts the 8-ohm output of a consumer electronics amplifier for use with as many as eight pairs of commercial-grade speakers without fear of mismatched impedance levels destroying the amp or speakers.
Some of the usage scenarios the MTR-500 can be used for include the expansion of an existing audio system that's located in a business or retail establishment where more speakers are required to complete the upgrade. OSD says the unit has a maximum power handling capacity of 500-watts for bridged connections, and it incorporates features for short circuit and overload protection.
