Win 7: So Define ‘Geek’ for Me
Is this me?
And now there's this unflattering image from 39 Cent Stamp and talk of pocket protectors.
Every month, a group of Minnesota CE Pros gets together for a few hours to discuss the industry. It's my time to host so why not do a quick run-through of Win 7 Media Center, which I have up and running thanks to the kind tech support at S1Digital.
Most of the dealers involved in the group have never experienced Windows 7 Media Center. There's some pretty cool stuff in there -- and even more since I got my first look at Win 7 it last year. Sadly, my beta version does not include Netflix (whereas Vista had it) and the Internet-based TV content is disappointing at best ... I assume we'll have it all when the final version arrives. Other than that, it's looking good.
I haven't reviewed the bios (not BIOS, get it?) of the other Win 7 hosts and hostesses but I'm sure there are some pretty cool people in there. I believe I'm one of the hip chicks, no?
So the question is:
Does hosting a Win 7 launch party automatically put you in the Geek category? If so, can such a blemish be erased after said launch?
And on another note: Did anyone not get approved to host a party? I mean, if a cool cat like myself got the nod, then probably everyone did.

You’re such a geek… That’s probably a real picture of you too.
So, if you hosted a Escient Party of a Kaleidescape (spelling??) party, would you be considered a geek? If so, I’d have to say many of our clients are geek! I say, no, hosting a Windows 7 (with Media Center) party is not geeky, i do it all the time and friends are amazed at how cool and social the experience can be.
MediaCenter Guy, your name alone probably discredits you as an authority on the subject, but of course I concur.
no it definitely means your a geek! This photo wasn’t even altered.
jw ... seriously? I would never wear a bow tie with that vest.
While geek has some definitions that are not desired, Websters includes the definition “an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity <computer geek>”.
I would say that it is a compliment if the term NErd or dork was used that would be different.. Hell, everyone wants the Geeksquad to set things up for them and fix there problems..
Wear it proud…
BTW - I agree with Julie that a username of MediaCenter Guy does put him out of the runnig..
Oh my Julie, I thought this was a joke, but I now see you really *are* having a Windows 7 launch party. Yes, you are a geek. Geeks are good, but this might pass over into scary geeky
.
Julie, is it polite to talk to the uninvited about parties you’re in their absence?
Oh, and as a (uninvited) friend, I should warn you: That photo is pretty creepy.
;0)
You lied to me Julie! You originally told me this was an Amway Seminar. In any case, I’m sorry I can’t make it… I’m throwing a Tupperware party that day premiering their new Absolute Sound storage containers in designer colors and 2 different sizes for older collectors.
My party will be broadcast live on the next History Channel episode of, “Hoarders.”
your house only has 7 windows? why would you want to have a party to celebrate installing them? just don’t get it or how that would make you a geek, but then I’m one of those geeks who use Mac computers so what do I know:?
@ isf4hd , so- how is that latest mac OS upgrade doin’ for you?
smooth as silk, less overhead, faster performance, all of my apps are workin’ just fine and it freed up several GB on my hard drive
This is even too creepy for me.
Have any of you guys ever kissed a girl?
