NetStreams Exits AVAD, Promises ‘Compelling’ Programs
In response to a query on RemoteCentral.com, VP of international sales Buzz Goddard wrote:
Press release will be out shortly. We wanted to inform our dealers first.
With all of the resources we have been able to garner from ClearOne we have some very compelling solutions, programs and products launching over the next few weeks/months.
Sophisticated solutions like DigLinX are not well served via national distribution or large chain stores. In a tough business climate like this I think it is better to tighten, not loosen control and communication with our dealers. We are delighted to create a better business relationship with our integrators. All the new members of the StreamNet Partners program obviously see the value as well.
More to come...much more!
Indeed, NetStreams has big plans for residential A/V and control under the new ownership of ClearOne.

NetStreams used to anchor a control wall at AVAD branches.

Mfrs come and go from distributors—some times on their own volition, sometimes not. I wouldn’t read anything into it.
IMO Distribution as we know it is a dieing industry. Products will head to big box stores/online resellers like Amazon and direct to dealers.
No margin = No middleman
I respectfully disagree, 39. As an industry matures, distribution tends to get stronger. This is especially true in our industry, where it’s expensive for a vendor to serve so many low-volume dealers.
I am sure that Crestron coming to AVAD had a little or lot to do with NetStreams exit.
If your product is a commodity, sold based mainly on specs and marketing lies, put it in distribution. If your product is a draw, or an emotion, or a legitimate “destination”, only a good rep firm can give it the care, attention, and protection it deserves.
That is until we all become actual “integrators” and the internet whores make it so that our only product is our labor and our ability to make the clients’ big pile of ... discounts ... all work together. But at least then we won’t have to repair stuff for free anymore because we won’t have sold them the junk to begin with.

Im at a clean up job right now. 2 17” crestron touchpanels and 1 15” panel have been sent in for repair. The 15” has been sent it twice. The Runco 50” plasma stopped working yesterday and a sony 32” is defective.
I have a strange branded plasma that has no RS-232 commands, no discrete IR commands and it wont even work with a power sensor.
I have a CCTV DVR that has a RS-232 port but the company doesnt have commands for it.
The last dealer made the sale so i am not responsible for any of the hardware. We get to charge for handling all of the uninstallation/packing/unpacking/reinstallation. Client has to handle shipping.
I for one cant wait until we are a labor only industry. Works great for lawyers. Think back to all of the wasted hours trying to trick products into doing what the manual claims they can do. Or all of the wasted days dealing with DOA product. Now imagine that you didnt provide the hardware and you got to bill for all the time involved fighting with it.

Why are all these vendors Bailing on AVAD? Will AVAD survive?
