Ready for 2012, Lutron lighting controls can dim and switch a variety of different loads.

Lutron appears to have solutions for controlling all of the up-and-coming green lighting options.

At CEDIA Expo 2008, the company demonstrated products that control LED, fluorescent, halogen, and low-voltage lighting.

It's all part of Lutron's campaign to "Lead with Lighting Control," says spokesperson Melissa Andresko. "We're helping dealers with high-efficiency lighting and new ideas to help them differentiate their businesses."

High-Efficacy Lighting

At its booth, Lutron demonstrated "all the different light sources allowed in 2012 so people can understand what that legislation looks like," says Andy Wakefield, director of Lutron's Home Systems Business Unit.
  • Hi-lume LED driver. This universal voltage dimming driver provides LED dimming from 100% to 1%. Suggested primarily for commercial applications, the product enables LEDs to be integrated and controlled with the rest of a building.

Lutron says that the driver, when used with an LED lighting system, boasts an extended life cycle compared to incandescent and compact fluorescent systems – more than 50,000 hours of lamp lifetime.

It integrates with Lutron's EcoSystem protocol and 3-wire control systems.

  • LED dimming. Lutron's new 4A modules, available in November, can directly control line voltage LED sources.

  • Fluorescent switching. Also available in November is the RPM-4U, which can directly switch fluorescent lighting loads – great for simplifying HomeWorks projects that include these fluorescent lighting.

  • RadioRA Tu-Wire fluorescent dimmer. The wireless RadioRA now has a Tu-Wire dimmer used to control Lutron’s Tu-Wire fluorescent dimming ballasts.

  • 10V module support. Lutron's Illumination programming application now offers seamless control of 0-10V lighting, providing a solution for the control of many LED and fluorescent lighting loads.

Other Product Line Extensions

Lutron has added a wireless in-line dimming module that works with a HomeWorks lighting control system.

The device screws in between the lamp socket and the light, hidden beneath the lamp shade.

"A lot of customers are telling us that they don’t want a [Homeworks] keypad on the table," Andresko says.

It's a clever little add-on for HomeWorks, which was inducted into the CEDIA Product Hall of Fame.

In the window-covering department, Lutron now offers motorized control of skylight shades – a first for the company.

Plus, the company added 30+ roller shade fabric colors to its already generous selection.

And helping dealers with commercial installs, Lutron now offers spliced tracks for its motorized drapes to enable the product to fit into elevators.
